Dear Upper School Families,
One of the ways Mount Vernon students take ownership of their learning is by participating in student-led conferences. On Wednesday, October 23, all families in Grades 9-12 are invited to request a conference with one of their teachers. Students will not be in school this day, however, our goal for conference day is 100% student and parent participation.
The purpose of student conference day is for each student to discuss his or her own progress with the parent(s) and the teacher taking a secondary role. Students should use the opportunity to share goals, demonstrate progress through artifacts and portfolios, and seek feedback on their work.
Please sign up through the PowerSchool web portal using your parent login (not student login) to reserve an appointment with your child’s teacher. Sign-ups are open and available upon receipt of this email on a first-come, first-served basis. Students are expected to participate in conferences about their learning. Parents may request to meet without the student for a portion of the conference. If more time is needed, parents may request a conference directly with a content-specific teacher any time throughout the semester or school year to discuss student progress.
Upon arrival at your scheduled conference, please check in with Sharveace Cameron at the front desk in the Upper School Building on the Upper Campus. If you are unable to conference on this day, have a schedule conflict, or would like to ask questions please call or email Sharveace Cameron.
We value our partnership with Mount Vernon families and look forward to this opportunity to come together to support student learning on Wednesday, October 23.
Sincerely,
Chip Houston
Head of Upper School
