What is it?
An opportunity for the Lower School students of Mount Vernon Presbyterian School to demonstrate their talents and abilities, while having fun.
When is it?
The Lower School Student Talent Showcase will be held on Thursday, January 24 at 6:00 p.m., in the Fellowship Hall. There will also be a student matinee on Friday, January 25 at 8:30 a.m.
Who can participate?
All current Lower School students are invited to perform.
How do I sign up to audition?
Sign-up online by following this link. Auditions will be held on Thursday, January 10 and Friday, January 11, from 3:30 – 6:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. Each audition will last approximately five minutes. Acts are expected to be in near performance quality at the time of audition to be considered. Do not audition if you are still “working out the details".
Students will need to either be with a parent or guardian or at Extended Play before or after their audition time slot. We are not responsible to watch students while they are not in the audition. If there is not a parent or guardian present, all students auditioning will be checked into Extended Play before or after their audition. **Please know that all Lower School students are registered for Extended Play through your enrollment contract at Mount Vernon. Hourly rates are $12.00 for Extended Play, unless you are on the yearly or monthly plan.
What can I do in the show?
We will be looking for a variety of acts—music, poetry, magic tricks, stunts, skits, dance, and other creative performances. While there is no central theme, all acts should be age appropriate.
How long can an act be?
Most acts, whether individual or groups are to be three minutes or less. If you are performing to a song longer than three minutes, plan edits or fades before your audition. Dance acts may not last any longer than one and a half minutes.
How many acts can participate?
There is a limited number of acts in the program. Therefore, it is possible that some cuts may need to be made. Acts with two or more students will receive preference when possible. While cuts are painful, they are usually necessary in these programs and provide students opportunities to grow.
Do I have to participate?
No. But everyone is welcome to audition.
If I am singing, what do I do for accompaniment?
It is best if you use recorded accompaniment from CD or MP3 player. Absolutely no lip-syncing or singing “over” a track will be allowed. You must use the accompaniment that you plan to use in the talent show at the time of your audition.
What about rehearsals?
There will be only one rehearsal on Wednesday, January 23 from 3:30 – 6:00 PM in the Fellowship Hall. This will be a technical walk-through rehearsal. It will be a time for everyone to find out where to stand, how to get ready, how to use the microphones, etc. All participants are required to attend the rehearsal.
I still have a question. What do I do now?
If you have any questions about what you would like to do or whether or not your act is appropriate, feel free to email Emily Edwards or Katie Trenney.
