On Wednesday, February 14 at 9:30 a.m., there will be a parent informational meeting in the Fellowship Hall on the Founders Campus. If your child requires medication of any kind, please bring it to this meeting in a clear plastic, ziploc bag, clearly labeled with your child’s name, and with detailed instructions. We are collecting all medication in advance. Additionally, if you have allergy concerns, please let us know.
On Wednesday, February 21 your child will travel to Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama on a Southeastern Stage, Inc. motor coach bus. Students will leave the Founders Campus promptly at 7:30 a.m. for a 4.5-hour journey to Huntsville. Drop-off begins no earlier than 6:45 a.m. and concludes no later than 7:15 a.m. Please enter the Founders Campus from the Johnson Ferry entrance and follow the route of the afternoon carpool line. Drop your student and his/her luggage off on the curb outside of the Gym entrance. Students will leave their luggage on the curb in front of the buses and then report directly to their advisory classroom. To keep the carpool drop-off flowing, parents need to exit the campus immediately after drop off--do not attempt to park or get out of your cars. There will be chaperones on hand to assist the students with their luggage.
Students will stop on the way to camp for breakfast at a fast food restaurant, and for lunch at a fast food restaurant on the way home. We will give each student $10.00. If your student will need more money than that, please give him/her additional cash. Space Camp is a three-day, two-night trip. Both students and chaperones stay on the grounds of Space Camp. We will return on Friday, February 23 by approximately 4:00 p.m.
The total cost of the trip is $500.00, which includes transportation, lodging, and food at Space Camp. This amount has been billed to your account by the Business Office. You paid a $250 non-refundable deposit when you registered your child, $125 applied on December 1, and $125 applied as the last installment on February 1. Space Camp is paid in full by February 1.
The week after Space Camp, students will engage in follow-up reflection activities in each core academic class.
Please let us know if you have any questions. We are looking forward to blasting off into space!
