In Middle School, not all learning occurs in a classroom. The social and emotional development of our students is vital, and the School facilitates many such opportunities. Recess remains an important part of a middle schooler’s day to provide a brain break as well as an opportunity for free play and socializing.
Junior Prefects
6th, 7th, and 8th grade students with leadership aspirations can apply to be junior prefects. The process, which includes an application and an interview, provides students with valuable experience. Modeling the upper school prefect system, junior prefects will fulfill student-leadership roles, lead initiatives, and collaborate on projects to enhance the MV Middle community.
Social Events
All Middle School students participate in multiple team-building days throughout the year. The Halloween Bash is held in October for all grades, and grades 6 and 7 have a winter social while grade 8 ends the year with a spring dance.
MVGameDay!, Sports and Arts Rallies, and Spirit Days
The entire Middle School gathers on calendar half-days to have some fun! Healthy competition abounds among Communities in physical, creative, and brain teaser games. At sports and arts rallies, athletes, artists, and teams are recognized while grade levels participate in some friendly competition. Every Friday, students enjoy a Spirit Day and wear Mount Vernon spirit wear.
Mustang Rally
This school-wide celebration occurs during a school day in April as students participate in an all-school parade, games, a carnival, inflatables, prizes, and activities. Families enjoy a picnic lunch, along with a silent auction.
