In Middle School, not all learning occurs in a classroom. The social and emotional development of our students is vital, and the School facilitates many such opportunities, as we believe relationships are foundational for learning.
Socials include events such as trips to Sky Zone Trampoline Park and Stars and Strikes Bowling. Also, students look forward to the annual Christmas Extravaganza in December.
For grades 7 and 8, there are three school dances held throughout the school year, including a fall dance, Valentine dance, and spring dance. The Middle School Student Council is involved in the planning and preparation for the dances. They gather ideas and create a list of themes for each dance, such as Halloween, Valentine’s Day, and Spring Fling, which gives the students a voice by voting for each theme.
PEP RALLIES AND SPIRIT DAYS
The entire Middle School gathers to celebrate our team sports and student athletes for fall, winter, and spring sports. At pep rallies, athletes and teams are recognized while grade levels compete against each other for the famous spirit stick. The winning grade displays the spirit stick in their respective hallways until the next pep rally. Every Friday, students enjoy a Spirit Day and wear Mount Vernon spirit wear.
This school-wide celebration occurs during a school day in April as students participate in an all-school parade, grade level competitive field races, games, a carnival, inflatables, prizes, and activities. Families enjoy a picnic lunch, along with a silent auction and a raffle for free tuition.
Mount Vernon provides opportunities for students to come together and pursue their unique interests through an offering of clubs. These clubs meet as extracurricular activities moderated by faculty members. Clubs may change, but often include some of the following: Girl Talk, Communications Team, Art Club, Drama Club, The Drone Mob, Service Club, Science Club, Student Council (grades 5 & 6), Student Council (grades 7 & 8), Random Acts of Kindness, Sewing Club, and Board Games Club.
