The Academic Resource Team offers guidance for students in need of academic support throughout the year including observation, collaboration with teachers and parents, recommendations for classroom accommodations, and small group content area support. Referrals to tutors and other private services both on and off campus are an added benefit the team provides. Serving as educational consultants to all Mount Vernon students, teachers, and parents, our learning specialists facilitate appropriate accommodations for students bringing in outside psychological-educational evaluations and coordinate extended time for both standardized testing and classroom curriculum. Additionally, the learning specialists teach study skills and organization as part of our Connections rotation. Lessons include introducing learning styles, study tools and strategies, note-taking methods and preparing for major assessments.
Individual teacher tutorials are also scheduled before and after school. Upon teacher or parent request, students may meet weekly with a learning specialist to improve their study skills, organization, and overall performance.
