Student progress is monitored and reported on a regular basis. Students and parents receive informal feedback through conferencing, graded assignments, written feedback, and ePortfolios. Parents may note the dates of formal progress reports and parent conferences from the School’s website and class pages.
The partnership between parents and teachers is a vital one in the life of a student, and one that we seek to foster more intentionally in the Middle School. There are three conference opportunities each year:
- In August, we invite each parent to set up a conference time with your child’s Community Leader for a Parent Sharing Conference. The purpose of the parent sharing conference is to strengthen the parent-teacher partnership during this critical stage of child development. It is a time for you to share your thoughts and concerns with your child’s Community Leader, who will then cascade the information to the grade-level team of teachers. This conference is your chance to talk and the teacher’s chance to listen.
- In late fall, your child’s Community Leader will have an opportunity to highlight your child’s progress and learning at the Teacher Sharing Conference to supplement progress reporting throughout the school year via PowerSchool, emails and/or phone calls, and student work.
- In the spring, your child will lead a culminating Student Share Conference, sharing progress, strengths, and stretches of the year. Receiving support and guidance from Community leaders, students actively participate in their own learning through a collaborative conversation with their parents during student-led conferences.
Student-led conferences
Student-led conferences instill the value of ownership of learning and occur each spring. Parent-share and teacher-share conferences are held in the fall. Additional conferences may be called at any time as needed by the parent, student, or teacher.
