As an essential part of our mission statement, Mount Vernon defines grounded in Christian values the following way:
Jesus grew in wisdom and favor with God and others. May we walk in a manner worthy of the call we have been entrusted, grounded in love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. Nurturing these values through service and community, we ask questions, share stories and build relationships. Inspiring one another through the work we undertake together we seek to design a better world, searching for maximum impact.

CHAPEL AND CHRISTIAN EDUCATION
The Lower School student body gathers each Wednesday for chapel. Led by members of our faculty and staff, this half hour includes high-energy music and developmentally appropriate messages regarding mainstream Christian values of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. Many parents elect to join us for this time of community and fellowship.
We strive to foster a spirit of service in our students well beyond traditional service hours. Students practice service through decisions to approach each day with gratitude, respect for others, and by assisting in any way they can. Each grade level also partners with organizations in our community such as Children Helping Children and Action Ministries to help each child see how he or she can make a difference.
SHARE THE WELL CAMPAIGNS
The School holds a variety of collection drives to help the less fortunate. Throughout the years these efforts have included supporting our sister school in Zambia, Toys for Tots, Atlanta Community Food Bank, and the American Red Cross.
