My name is Desirée Vogt, and I am so excited to serve as the Mount Vernon Parents Association's President of Friends of the Arts for the 2020-21 school year. I have been volunteering for Friends of the Arts for three years, and I cannot wait to jump back in.
Friends of the Arts is an organization of parents who support and promote our artists and art teachers throughout the season. Last year we were wowed with a jam-packed season including musical performances, twelve plays, award-winning dance competitions, choruses and improv acts, just to name a few. We are even more excited about the upcoming year, kicked off with another excellent Drama Bootcamp, and our fourth annual 72-Hour Play. The dance team is already prepping for another great year, and music lessons are being offered in-person and virtually to make sure all of our students have an opportunity to participate. We have so many things to look forward to this year.
Having said that, there are many unknowns ahead of us. We are hoping to be able to host audiences, but we have no guarantees. We are hoping for in-person events, but many things are still up in the air.
So, to make it easier on our Mount Vernon families, Friends of the Arts is waving all membership fees for the 20/21 school year. We are asking our community to make a tax-deductible donation of any amount to support Friends of the Arts 20/21. Please connect with Friends of the Arts to have access to an exclusive monthly Arts newsletter, and a car decal to display your support of the Arts.
This year we will be using these funds to improve our sound system on the Lower Campus and continue to support our artist community. We are also using this year to build up our fund to support future travel and art opportunities. This fund will allow the art department to be more flexible when last-minute opportunities present themselves. Please connect to celebrate the 20/21 season with us.
Thank you for your support. I look forward to meeting each of you.
