Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Mount Vernon Fund?
The MV Fund is the School’s primary fundraising initiative, supporting our annual operating budget. Gifts to the Fund provide needed resources to close the gap between the necessities funded by tuition and the extra resources that are essential to the Mount Vernon experience. These funds reflect an investment that pays dividends by enriching the intellectual, social, and personal development of every student.
Are my gifts tax-deductible?
Yes, the Mount Vernon School is a 501c3, making donations 100% deductible.
How do I donate?
Gifts can be made securely online, here, or with cash, check, or stock. You may also elect to set up monthly withdrawals from your credit or debit card.
Checks should be made payable to The Mount Vernon School and sent to:

Can I donate stock to the Mount Vernon Fund?
Yes. This is a great way to make a gift to the School. Giving appreciated securities provides donors with a tax deduction for the appreciated value of the stock without incurring capital gains tax.
What about matching gifts?
Several corporations match the gifts their employees contribute to nonprofit organizations. Many families at Mount Vernon are able to double or triple their personal contributions through their employer’s matching-gifts program. Does your company participate in a matching gift program?
Why is participation important?
Our community's strength is dependent upon the participation of all members of the School family. What’s more, when we ask foundations and corporations for support, we are often asked to share our participation rate in our annual-giving campaign. High participation rate—regardless of gift size—communicates a strong dedication and commitment from our community in advancing our mission of inquiry, innovation, and impact.
How much should I give?
You are the only one who knows how much you are able to give. We ask only that you consider Mount Vernon as one of your most important philanthropic priorities.
In honor of Mount Vernon’s founding year, the 1972 Society recognizes those who set an example of generosity and impact through gifts of $1,972 and higher. Please consider giving at this level to elevate our school.
