We live in a world of exponential change. Leaning into the future, how might we multiply our influence, increase our value, drive design and innovation, inspire one another, expand our reach, and deepen our impact?
As the 2012-2017 strategic plan comes to a close, MVx is Mount Vernon’s next strategic response to the disruptive shifts in the skillsets needed for the workforce of the future, a competitive college admissions environment, technological transformations, and global interconnectivity.
Setting the conditions for this adventure, we reflect on the immediate past to play a role in informing our future. We have been building something exceptional. This could not have been possible without the dedication of a high- performing faculty and staff, a committed and connected parent community, and most importantly, an engaged and passionate student body.
During the past five years, Mount Vernon has experienced a period of transformation, propelling the School to become a leading, innovative school in the country, evidenced by the:
• development of the Mount Vernon Continuum;
• renovation of learning spaces, building of new space, and acquisition of more space;
• influence of the Mount Vernon Institute for Innovation;
• emergence of brand identity in Atlanta, throughout the United States, and internationally;
• and growth in inquiries, applications, and enrollment in the midst of a recession.
In addition, we engaged our community through experiences such as Curiosity Conversations, a Maverick MeetUp, Parent Universities Council on Innovation, and A Night of Inquiry, Innovation, and Impact to name a few. We sought and received feedback through focus groups, audits, surveys, executive leadership searches, and a feasibility study. We learned together through learning walks, action research projects, and design thinking challenges.
We gave voice to student questions, wonders, and curiosities. We varied our routes because the future demands it, learning yearns for it, and ultimately, our mission requires it. Providing the most relevant, applicable experience for this generation of students is critical, and a sense of urgency moving forward is our call to action.
